Serena Williams withdraws from Swedish Open

World No. 1 Serena Williams has reportedly withdrawn from next week’s Swedish Open as she has yet to make a full recovery from the illness that dramatically ended her Wimbledon campaign last week.

The reports have suggested that the 32-year-old American, who won the Swedish Open with a straight-sets win over Johanna Larsson last year, isn’t fully recovered from the viral illness, thus she has canceled her appearance at this month’s WTA tournament in Bastad.

17-time Grand Slam champion was a fourth-round loser in singles at Wimbledon before she retired from her doubles match with her sister Venus last week after struggling with the same virus.

Williams said that Bastad was one of her favourite tournaments, thus she is very disappointed for not to come back there and added she will make a comeback next year.

The Swedish Open event runs from July 13 to 20.
