Liverpool Eye Trent Alexander-Arnold Return: £17m January Bid Reported

Liverpool’s defensive depth is still a concern, and a right-back is high on the shopping list. A reunion with an old favourite could be on the cards.

Liverpool Reportedly Ready to Bid £17m for Alexander-Arnold

According to Fichajes, the Reds are weighing up a surprise swoop for Trent Alexander-Arnold in the January transfer window, with a £17 million offer reportedly ready. Liverpool also need reinforcements at centre-back, but right-back looks the most pressing area.

Why Alexander-Arnold Could Consider an Anfield Return

The England international left Anfield on a free transfer in 2025. His time at Real Madrid has largely been spent on the fringes, and he is now at an age where regular football matters. Jose Mourinho has recently preferred Denzel Dumfries and Federico Valverde in the right-back role, which could leave the door open to a move. How Madrid’s hierarchy would respond to an approach for their former Liverpool man remains to be seen.

Would Alexander-Arnold Fit Back Into Liverpool’s Squad?

On the pitch, the logic is easy to see. Even in limited minutes this season, Alexander-Arnold has shown his quality in possession, which has always been his biggest strength. Jeremie Frimpong has struggled defensively, and Ronald Araujo is a natural centre-back, so a return would slot into a clear gap in Liverpool’s lineup.

Madrid are said to see him as a medium-term investment, which makes a quick exit unlikely. Even so, Dumfries’ age and his inconsistent displays in recent weeks could change the picture by the turn of the year.

Liverpool are expected to look at other options too, but with the January window approaching, the right-back position looks set to dominate their transfer planning.
