Wenger keen on defensive additions at Emirates

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is desperate to strengthen his side defensively during the summer transfer window.

The 66-year-old Frenchman called on the Gunners to “toughen up”, and admitted that they need to improve the squad for next season.

“We have to add something defensively as a team to be more ruthless,” he told reporters.

“Once you are two up at West Ham you finish 3-3 you question the team defensively. We were not strong enough defensively. We gave cheap goals away against Man Utd and were punished for it.

“I don’t think we are soft but we need to toughen up. In some games we were caught, but a lot of the teams have the same problem.”

With just two games left, Arsenal will make into a top-three finish and UEFA Champions League football for a 20th consecutive year if they beat Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
