Tottenham are reportedly ‘leading the race’ to land Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez, edging out both Liverpool and Chelsea in the chase, according to Caught Offside.
Who Is Joel Ordóñez?
The 22-year-old Ecuadorian has been a revelation since arriving from Independiente del Valle in 2023, helping Brugge to a Belgian Pro League title plus domestic cup glory. Last season he chipped in with 4 goals and 5 clean sheets across 43 appearances, and he’s now a key figure for Ecuador heading into this World Cup.

A Three-Way Premier League Scrap
With Ibrahima Konaté gone on a free, Liverpool are reportedly ‘seriously considering’ Ordóñez as his replacement. Chelsea, Newcastle, and Juventus are also circling, but it’s Spurs who appear best placed to get a deal done.
Plan B Becomes Plan A
Tottenham’s top target was Jan Paul van Hecke, but Brighton’s refusal to budge has pushed them toward Ordóñez instead. Brugge, aware of his contract running until 2029, have slapped a £39m price tag on their prized asset.
Verdict
At 6ft 2in, quick, dominant in the air, and composed in possession, Ordóñez ticks every box for a modern Premier League centre-back. If Spurs can win this three-way battle and get him for £39m, it could prove one of the shrewdest defensive signings of the summer window.
