Liverpool eyeing Matthias Ginter deal

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp ramped up his interest in Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter, according to Calciomercato via The Metro.

The 25-year-old, who is a 23-time Germany international, has previously played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund before joining Die Fohlen in 2017.

The report adds the German boss wants Ginter to replace Joel Matip in the squad and compete with Joe Gomez for the starting role alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defence.

Ginter will see his current deal at Borussia-Park expire in the summer of 2021, although the German outfit do have the option of extending his contract for a further 12 months.

The centre-back has scored once in 19 Bundesliga appearances this term.
