Chelsea Planning Surprise Move for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins: A Marquee Addition?

Chelsea are reportedly surprising everyone with their interest in Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins. Despite already strengthening their frontline with Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, manager Mauricio Pochettino seems keen on another high-profile addition.

Watkins, who shone for Villa under Unai Emery’s guidance, helping them avoid relegation and secure a seventh-place finish last season, has caught Chelsea’s attention.

The English forward’s stellar form has attracted Chelsea’s interest, but it remains uncertain if Villa would entertain any offers for their prized asset at this point. Villa, having qualified for the UEFA Conference League, have ambitious plans and have made significant signings like Moussa Diaby and Pau Torres. It is likely that they would only consider letting go of Watkins if a substantial bid of around £70 million is made.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Watkins demonstrates their determination to strengthen their attacking options further. As the former Brentford star netted an impressive 15 goals in the top-flight last season, he could prove to be a valuable addition to the Blues’ squad if they can persuade Villa to part ways with him.
