Howell wins first European Title Since 2006


David Howell has won his first European title in seven years by beating American Peter Uihlein at the second extra hole of a playoff at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews, Scotland.

The 38-year-old, who won the BMW Championship in May 2006 as his last victory.

Both men pars at the first playoff hole, but a eight feet putt for birdie on the 18th saw Howell clinch his fifth landmark victory on the European Tour ever and he claim the £495,000 first prize.

Shane Lowry and Tom Lewis finished with a tie for third on 22-under par, whereas Tommy Fleetwood finished in sixth.
