Liverpool step up interest in Parma wonderkid Giovanni Leoni

Liverpool are intensifying their pursuit of Parma centre-back Giovanni Leoni, with multiple Premier League and Serie A clubs also vying for the highly rated teenager, according to FC Inter News.

Rising Star in Serie A

The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season with Parma, making 17 Serie A appearances and earning praise for his composure, positional awareness, and ball-playing ability. Parma tied Leoni down to a long-term deal in February, a decision that now looks shrewd given the surge in interest from top European clubs.

Liverpool’s Defensive Concerns

Arne Slot is eager to strengthen Liverpool’s backline, particularly in central defence. Behind Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté, options are thin—Joe Gomez has once again picked up an injury, while bids for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi have so far been rejected.

While Guehi remains a primary target, Slot is reportedly seeking at least two new centre-backs this summer. Leoni could be brought in as a depth option, with the potential to develop into a long-term starter. Parma’s valuation is not yet known, but Liverpool may need to act decisively to avoid losing ground in the race.

Strong Competition for Leoni

Liverpool are not the only club monitoring Leoni. Serie A giants AC Milan and Inter Milan are both keen—Milan in particular could reinvest funds from Malick Thiaw’s sale to Newcastle United. In the Premier League, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested as they seek to bolster defensive depth.

Given Liverpool’s stature and the opportunity to work under Arne Slot, the Reds could quickly move to the front of the queue if they formalise their interest with a concrete offer.
