The world No. 1 Rafael Nadal has won the first round of the Rio Open after beating Spanish Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 7-5.
It was No. 1-ranked first match since three weeks ago Nadal’s loose the Aussie Open final game against the Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka.
The 27-year-old, Nadal said:
”Daniel is a specialist on clay, so for me it was a great match after so much time off after the final in Australia because of the back problems, I practiced very little. So I was happy to get back, and get back with a victory.”
Last week, Nadal skipped Buenos Aires game due to his back injury and back with win in first round of Rio Open proved his critics who said he would have a short career.
