Sheikh Joaan Al Thani buys Filly for £5.25m


Qatari Sheikh Joaan Al Thani has paid world record fee for a yearling filly in five million guineas (£5.25 million, $8.38 million) at the Tattersalls bloodstock auction on Wednesday.

The yearling, who also the most expensive horse that has been sold in an auction in Europe, beating a record set by Magical Romance (4.6m guineas) in 2006.

Sheikh Al Thani said, “She is a magnificent specimen, We bought her sister last year and we think she could be special. We didn’t want to miss this one – let’s hope she is the next Treve. We didn’t expect to pay that sort of price, but Al Shaqab Racing is keen to invest.”
