German golfer Martin Kaymer wins US Open at Pinehurst

The German golfer Martin Kaymer claimed his second major title of his career after winning the U.S. Open Title by eight strokes at Pinehurst on Sunday.

The 29-year-old, who won the PGA Championship in 2010 – becomes the first golfer from continental Europe to ever win a US Open.

“t was probably the toughest day that I played golf today, especially the first nine,” Kaymer said.

“A lot of people think, `Well, you have a little bit of a cushion.’ But if you approach that day in that way, with that attitude, it can be gone so quickly.”

With this spectacular victory, the former world #1 Kaymer got richer by $1.4 million (1 million euros) and he became the seventh player in 114th U.S. Open to go wire-to-wire.
