Essex: Ravi Bopara signs new two-year contract

Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara has signed a new two-year contract extension, that will keep him at the county until 2017.

The England international first played for Essex back in 2002 and since then he has been a regular for the Eagles across all three formats.

The 30-year-old recorded his maiden county century in 2005 and has been a key figure for the Eagles across all three formats of the game, scoring 9,915 runs in 164 matches at an average of 40.97.

“I’ve played a lot under Ronnie, I know him very well, and I’m trusting him to get things the way we all want here at Essex,” Bopara told the club’s website.

“We’re a team that should be competing and performing at a higher level than we are. I think we can achieve that with a couple of new signings and I’m confident that the club will get that right.”

He was Essex’s leading wicket taker in the T20 Blast with 19 victims at an average of 16.11.

Bopara was part of England’s World Cup squad earlier this year, having played 13 Tests, 120 ODIs and 38 T20I for his nation.
